Prophylactic leave
Are you pregnant and working in a physically demanding or risky job (such as in the cleaning sector)? From 6 months of pregnancy, you are automatically entitled to prophylactic leave.

What is prophylactic leave?
– You are temporarily exempt from work to protect your health and your baby’s.
– The leave starts from 6 months of pregnancy.
– You don’t need to apply: it’s granted automatically after consultation with the occupational doctor. -
What happens next?
Prophylactic leave automatically flows into maternity leave (1 week before birth).
You return to work only after your full postnatal rest period (see next chapter). -
What allowance do you get?
You receive a daily allowance from your health fund: 78.237% of your average daily wage.
If you fall under PC121, you receive an additional 27.816% via the social fund.
What do you need to do?
- Submit a certificate from your gynaecologist with the expected delivery date to HR.
- From 5 months of pregnancy, request a mandatory work withdrawal certificate from HR.
- Send these documents to your health fund to receive your allowance.
