Prophylactic leave

Are you pregnant and working in a physically demanding or risky job (such as in the cleaning sector)? From 6 months of pregnancy, you are automatically entitled to prophylactic leave.

  • What is prophylactic leave?

    – You are temporarily exempt from work to protect your health and your baby’s.
    – The leave starts from 6 months of pregnancy.
    – You don’t need to apply: it’s granted automatically after consultation with the occupational doctor.

  • What happens next?

Prophylactic leave automatically flows into maternity leave (1 week before birth).
You return to work only after your full postnatal rest period (see next chapter).

  • What allowance do you get?

You receive a daily allowance from your health fund: 78.237% of your average daily wage.
If you fall under PC121, you receive an additional 27.816% via the social fund.

What do you need to do?

  1. Submit a certificate from your gynaecologist with the expected delivery date to HR.
  2. From 5 months of pregnancy, request a mandatory work withdrawal certificate from HR.
  3. Send these documents to your health fund to receive your allowance.

Questions?

HR will help with the certificates and follow up your file.
