Short leave
For certain family or civil events, you are entitled to short paid leave, known as “klein verlet“.
These are legally defined days off with pay. When are you entitled to short leave?
Common situations include:
– Your own wedding
– Wedding of a child or parent
– Death of your partner, child or parent
– Death of a sibling, grandparent or in-law
– First communion or secular celebration of your child
– Summons as witness or juror
The exact duration depends on the event and is laid down in law and sectoral collective agreements.
What should you do?
- Notify your supervisor as soon as possible.
- Submit proof to HR (e.g. invitation, death notice, certificate).
- HR confirms whether it qualifies as short leave and if you are entitled to paid time off.
Note
– Short leave cannot be rescheduled.
– If the event falls on a rest day, you do not get extra time off.
– The right lapses if you do not report the event or submit proof.
Questions?
Ask HR if you’re unsure whether an event qualifies or how many days you’re entitled to.
